Daikin Heat Pump and Air Handler Reconnect on a Manufactured Home in Orchards
We hooked up a new Daikin heat pump and air handler on a manufactured home in Orchards, Vancouver, on the day the HVAC crew swapped them. We also put a line monitor on the outdoor unit and pulled the combination L&I permit.

Scope of Work
- Hooked up the outdoor heat pump the day the HVAC crew swapped it
- Hooked up the indoor air handler
- Put the HVAC contractor's line monitor on the outdoor unit
- Pulled the combination L&I permit a manufactured home needs
When an HVAC crew swaps a heat pump, they pull the old one in the morning and the new one has to be running before they leave. The electrician has a short window and can’t be the reason the day runs late. This one was on a manufactured home in the Orchards area of Vancouver. We hooked up both the outdoor Daikin unit and the indoor air handler.
Manufactured homes need a different permit
In Washington, a manufactured home needs a combination L&I permit, not the regular electrical permit you’d pull for a stick-built house.
That matters for scheduling. If the wrong permit gets pulled, you find out at inspection, weeks after everybody’s gone. That’s one reason an HVAC company brings in an electrician for the heat pump and air handler hookups.
What a line monitor does
The HVAC contractor supplied a single-phase line monitor for the outdoor unit, and we put it in during the hookup.
It watches the incoming voltage and shuts the compressor off if the power goes too low, spikes, or loses a leg. The compressor is the expensive part of a heat pump, and it doesn’t survive long on low voltage. The monitor is cheap protection mounted next to the disconnect.
You see them more on manufactured homes and rural properties, where the power is more likely to dip under load.
A reconnect still gets checked
On a swap, the circuit and disconnect are often already there. We still check everything:
- The new unit has its own nameplate. The wire size and breaker size it calls for can change between models, so the old breaker may not be right anymore.
- The disconnect has to fit the new unit and stay within sight of it.
- We open up the old connections. An outdoor connection that’s been sitting for fifteen years gets looked at before we turn it back on.
Our rundown of what a heat pump needs electrically shows how to read those numbers off the nameplate.

What customers say about our heat pump work
I have to shout out Ryan for going out of his way to come save us tonight. After having an HVAC tech out two days in a row, I was really hoping to have AC restored in my home. What we thought was an HVAC issue turned out to be a breaker issue and we thought we were going to be sweating through the night once again. Newman Electric was the first place I called and I’m super glad I did. Ryan was probably on his way home for the day but diverted over to our house to help us out. He charged a fair rate for emergency service and was in and out in less than 15 minutes. Best part is.. I might actually sleep through the night tonight now that my house is finally cooling down. We’ll be hiring Newman Electric again in the future, as it sounds like we’re due for a panel swap and their pricing is good. As a dispatcher for a local plumbing company, I know good service when I see it. Thanks again Ryan for helping us out tonight! We really owe you one. 10/10 will recommend to friends and family.
Always a pleasure having Newman electric company do work for me they are very friendly and very professional. I will always recommend them to anyone and will always call on them for my future work.

Panel Swap and Heat Pump Hookup for an A/C Replacement in Vancouver, WA
Advantage Heating & Cooling was swapping an A/C and air handler for a Daikin heat pump in east Vancouver, and the old panel needed to go. We put in a 200-amp Siemens panel, redid the grounding and bonding, and hooked up the heat pump and air handler the same day on a City of Vancouver permit.
