A/C Condenser Electrical Hookup in Vancouver, WA (HVAC Partner, Orchards)
We did the electrical for Advantage Heating & Cooling's A/C swap in the Orchards area of Vancouver. A new 30-amp condenser circuit, an outdoor disconnect with sealtight to the Daikin unit, and the furnace service outlet, all on a Clark County permit.

- Put in a 30-amp, 2-pole condenser circuit sized to the Daikin nameplate
- Set an outdoor disconnect with sealtight within sight of the unit
- Pulled the Clark County permit so the install passed inspection
When an HVAC company swaps an air conditioner, the refrigerant and ductwork are their job. The wiring is ours. We did the electrical side of an A/C swap for Advantage Heating & Cooling, an HVAC company we partner with, in the Orchards area of Vancouver, WA. We scheduled it for the morning their crew set the new unit so nobody was waiting on anybody.
Sizing the circuit to the nameplate
The new condenser was a Daikin, and its nameplate tells you what the electrical needs:
- 208/230 volts, single phase
- Minimum circuit ampacity: 19.4 amps
- Maximum breaker: 30 amps
So we put in a 30-amp, 2-pole breaker on #10 copper. Go bigger on the breaker and the wire isn’t protected. Go smaller and it trips on hot days. We match the nameplate, and that’s what gets it through inspection.
The disconnect is required
Outside at the unit, we set a weatherproof disconnect within sight of the condenser per NEC 440.14, with flexible sealtight to the unit:
- Sealtight handles the vibration and weather at the unit without cracking
- A disconnect in sight of the unit means any tech can shut it off right there before working on it
- Everything’s easy to get to for the next person, HVAC or electrical
We also took care of the furnace service outlet at the air handler, the GFCI outlet a service tech plugs into. Code requires it, and it’s easy to forget.
Why HVAC companies hand us the electrical
An HVAC crew can set and charge a unit in a morning. What slows them down is the electrical: the right circuit, a disconnect in sight, and a permit the county will sign off. That’s the heat pump and A/C wiring we do, on the HVAC company’s schedule, with the permit pulled.
We pulled the Clark County permit on this one. That’s one less thing for the HVAC company to chase, and the homeowner’s new system is on record and up to code from day one.
