Scope of Work
- Did the electrical for an HVAC contractor's A/C condenser swap
- Put the condenser circuit in the home's 200-amp Siemens panel
- Put in a new weatherproof disconnect and ran conduit to the unit
- Showed up the same afternoon the HVAC crew set the unit
When an HVAC crew sets a new air conditioner in the morning, somebody has to have the electrical ready that afternoon, or the homeowner goes the night without A/C. We’re that somebody. We did the wiring for an A/C swap for Advantage Heating & Cooling, an HVAC company we partner with, in Vancouver, WA, the same day their installers set the unit.
Replacing the disconnect
The old setup had a worn-out disconnect and a whip that had seen better days. A swap is when you replace those, not keep them going:
- A new weatherproof disconnect on the wall within sight of the condenser, per NEC 440.14
- Sealtight from the disconnect to the unit that flexes with vibration and keeps water out
- PVC conduit run neatly along the foundation so the wire’s protected and the install looks finished
The disconnect is what a service tech shuts off before working on the unit. Leaving an old rusty one to save twenty minutes is how you end up with a callback. New unit, new disconnect.
The circuit in a 200-amp panel
Inside, the house had a 200-amp Siemens panel with room to spare, so the condenser circuit went in clean:
- Breaker sized to the new unit’s nameplate, not the old one’s
- Wire matched to that breaker
- Panel labels updated so the next person knows what’s what
A 200-amp panel is the easy case for an A/C swap, because there’s room to do it right without juggling loads. We checked the capacity, put in the A/C circuit and disconnect, and pulled the Clark County permit so the install was inspected and on record.
Why HVAC companies call us
For an HVAC company, the hard part of the day is finding an electrician who shows up on the right afternoon, does the circuit and disconnect to code, and handles the permit so nothing fails inspection. We treat the HVAC crew’s schedule as our deadline, because that’s their customer waiting.

What customers say about our heat pump work
I have to shout out Ryan for going out of his way to come save us tonight. After having an HVAC tech out two days in a row, I was really hoping to have AC restored in my home. What we thought was an HVAC issue turned out to be a breaker issue and we thought we were going to be sweating through the night once again. Newman Electric was the first place I called and I’m super glad I did. Ryan was probably on his way home for the day but diverted over to our house to help us out. He charged a fair rate for emergency service and was in and out in less than 15 minutes. Best part is.. I might actually sleep through the night tonight now that my house is finally cooling down. We’ll be hiring Newman Electric again in the future, as it sounds like we’re due for a panel swap and their pricing is good. As a dispatcher for a local plumbing company, I know good service when I see it. Thanks again Ryan for helping us out tonight! We really owe you one. 10/10 will recommend to friends and family.
The work was done efficiently and were quick and nice about it.

Panel Swap and Heat Pump Hookup for an A/C Replacement in Vancouver, WA
Advantage Heating & Cooling was swapping an A/C and air handler for a Daikin heat pump in east Vancouver, and the old panel needed to go. We put in a 200-amp Siemens panel, redid the grounding and bonding, and hooked up the heat pump and air handler the same day on a City of Vancouver permit.
