Hardwired Level 2 EV Charger in Vancouver, WA (Mounted Right at the Panel)
We hardwired a Level 2 EV charger a few feet from the panel in a 2022 Vancouver home, with a short piece of flex straight from the Square D QO panel. It's the cleanest and cheapest kind of EV charger install.

Scope of Work
- Hardwired a Level 2 EV charger in a 2022 home garage
- Mounted the charger a few feet from the panel
- Ran a short piece of flex straight from the Square D QO panel
- Quoted a separate 240-volt garage outlet while we were there
This is what an EV charger install looks like when everything lines up. We hardwired a Level 2 charging circuit in a 2022 home in Vancouver, WA. The homeowner was fine putting the charger right next to the panel, so the job was short, clean and easy on the wallet.
Why next to the panel is cheapest
The biggest thing that drives EV install cost is how far the charger is from the panel. Put them a few feet apart and most of the cost goes away:
- A short piece of flex goes straight from the panel to the charger, with no long conduit run across the garage
- Not much wire, so no going up a size for voltage drop
- Less labor, because there’s almost nothing to run
When people ask why one EV quote is half of another, this is usually why. The charger’s the same either way. The run is what changes the job.
A newer panel with room
The Square D QO panel was from 2022 and had open spaces, so the dedicated 240-volt circuit went in without a subpanel or a service upgrade. Hardwiring the charger instead of plugging it in gives the most reliable connection and the full output it’s rated for. If you’re still choosing a charger, our Level 1 versus Level 2 charging guide covers the options.
Two things in one trip
While we were there, the homeowner also wanted a 240-volt garage outlet for other equipment, so we looked at it and gave them a price before we left. With the electrician already there and the panel open, a second small job costs less than its own trip.
