Master Bath Remodel Trim Electrical in Vancouver, WA (Orchards)

Trim-stage remodel electrical for a general contractor on a 1987 Orchards home: relocated a hallway thermostat to clear a crawlspace hatch and re-centered two vanity light boxes over a new double vanity before tile and cabinets went in.

New double vanity cabinets set against a freshly textured wall in an Orchards Vancouver WA master bath remodel, with three electrical boxes roughed in above for vanity lighting and the center box positioned over the sink line

Scope of Work

  • Trim-stage remodel electrical for a general contractor's master suite remodel
  • Relocated a hallway thermostat so it cleared the crawlspace access hatch
  • Re-centered two vanity light boxes to line up over the new double vanity
  • Worked around the tile setter and cabinet install to keep the schedule moving

Newman Electric handled the trim-stage remodel electrical on a master suite remodel in the Orchards area of Vancouver, WA. The job came to us through Amplified Renovations, a general contractor we partner with, who brings us in for the finish details, the small electrical moves that decide whether a remodeled room looks built-in or looks patched together.

This was not a rewire. It was the kind of punch-list electrical that happens after framing and before paint, when a few inches in the wrong place is the difference the homeowner notices every single day.

Why a thermostat gets moved during a remodel

The homeowner flagged the hallway thermostat with a simple question: can this be moved over? The reason was practical. The crawlspace access hatch sat right below it, and reaching the thermostat meant standing awkwardly over the hatch.

So we relocated it:

  • Pulled the existing low-voltage run and fished a new home for it a few feet down the wall
  • Kept it clear of the crawlspace hatch so the access stays usable
  • Set it at a clean height alongside the framed-in niche, not floating in the middle of the wall

A thermostat is a small device, but it is at eye level in a hallway everyone walks through. Getting it square and out of the way is exactly the sort of thing a homeowner remembers about a remodel.

Why vanity lights have to be centered before drywall closes

The bigger win on this visit was the vanity lighting. The new layout called for a double vanity, and the original light boxes did not line up over where the two sinks would land.

We set the boxes so the fixtures would read symmetrical:

  1. Center box positioned over the sink line, not the old framing
  2. Spacing balanced left to right so the finished sconces or bar lights look intentional
  3. All of it landed before the tile setter closed the wall, because moving a box after tile is a tear-out, not an adjustment

This is the part of a remodel that is invisible when it is done right. Nobody walks into a finished bathroom and thinks about box placement. They just notice the lights look centered, because they are.

Why GCs hand the finish electrical to us

On a remodel, the electrician is not the only trade in the room. The tile setter, the cabinet installer, and the painter all need the wall in a certain state on a certain day. Land the boxes too late and the tile work waits. Land them in the wrong spot and the cabinets do not fit.

That coordination is why general contractors keep a short list of electricians they trust on trim day instead of chasing the cheapest bid. We show up when the schedule says to, do the small moves cleanly, and get out of the next trade’s way. How we work with GCs across Clark and Cowlitz counties is the same on a two-hour punch-list as it is on a full rough-in.
