Tesla Universal Wall Connector Install in Ridgefield, WA (40-Foot Conduit Run)

Tesla Universal Wall Connector install in a 2022 Ridgefield home where the charger went on the far garage wall: about 40 feet of EMT conduit run from the Square D Homeline panel across the ceiling to a clean, hardwired Level 2 charger.

Scope of Work

  • Installed a Tesla Universal Wall Connector in a 2022 home garage
  • Landed a dedicated 240V circuit in the Square D Homeline panel
  • Ran about 40 feet of EMT conduit across the garage to the far wall
  • Hardwired the charger for the fastest, most reliable connection

Not every EV charger lands conveniently next to the panel. On this 2022 home in Ridgefield, WA, the homeowner wanted the charger on the far garage wall, where the car actually parks, and the panel was on the other side of the garage. So the job was as much about the run as the charger. Newman Electric installed a Tesla Universal Wall Connector and ran about 40 feet of EMT conduit to reach it.

Why the run matters as much as the charger

A hardwired EV charger is only as good as the circuit feeding it, and a 40-foot run is where shortcuts show up later:

  • EMT conduit the whole way, up the wall, across the ceiling, and back down to the charger, so the conductors are protected and the run looks intentional
  • Wire sized for the distance, because voltage drop over 40 feet is real and the conductors get bumped up to account for it
  • A clean path rather than cable stapled across an open garage where it can be snagged or damaged

Run it right and the homeowner never thinks about it again. Run it lazy and you get voltage drop, a slower charge, and a garage wall that looks like an afterthought.

Why the Universal Wall Connector

This home got the Tesla Universal Wall Connector, which has both the Tesla connector and a built-in J1772 adapter. That means it charges a Tesla and a non-Tesla EV equally well, which matters in a two-car household or for resale down the road. It is a smart pick when you are not sure what you will be driving in five years, and it is one of the options we walk through in our guide to choosing the right charger for your home.

A newer panel makes the rest easy

The home’s Square D Homeline panel had the capacity and the open spaces to take a dedicated 240V circuit without a sub-panel or a service upgrade. On homes built in the last few years, that is usually the case, which means the cost comes down to the charger and the run, not a panel overhaul. Our breakdown of what an EV install actually costs covers how distance and panel capacity drive the final number.
