Garage Tesla Wall Connector Install in Vancouver, WA (Orchards, 2022 Home)

We put a Tesla Wall Connector in the garage of a 2022 home in Orchards, Vancouver. We added a dedicated circuit in the Eaton panel and ran it in EMT to the charger, which we mounted right next to the panel to keep the run short.

Scope of Work

  • Put a Tesla Wall Connector in the garage of a 2022 home
  • Added a dedicated 240-volt circuit in the Eaton panel
  • Ran the wire in EMT conduit
  • Mounted the charger next to the panel to keep the run short

We put a Tesla Wall Connector in the garage of a 2022 home in the Orchards area of Vancouver, WA. The homeowner wanted the charger to the right of the panel, and on a newer house like this, the job’s simple: one dedicated circuit and a short, clean run.

Why newer homes are easy for EV chargers

Newer homes usually have two things going for them, and this one had both:

  • A modern panel with room. The Eaton panel had open spaces, so we added a dedicated 240-volt circuit without a subpanel or a service upgrade.
  • The panel’s in the garage. Mounting the Tesla Wall Connector right next to the panel kept the wire run short, which means less voltage drop and a cleaner install.

When the panel already has room, the job is a breaker, a short run and mounting the charger. Our guide to picking the right home charger shows how to tell if your panel has room.

Why we ran it in EMT

In a garage, you can run the wire to the charger a few ways. We ran this one in EMT conduit:

  1. It protects the wire on a garage wall where things get bumped and stacked against it
  2. It looks clean, a straight metal run from the panel to the charger instead of cable stapled to the drywall
  3. It’s easy to change later if the homeowner adds a circuit or moves the charger

How fast it charges

A hardwired Wall Connector on a 240-volt circuit charges much faster than the cord that came with the car:

  • A regular 120-volt garage outlet adds only a few miles of range per hour
  • A Level 2 circuit can add tens of miles per hour, enough to fill most EVs overnight

If you’re figuring out what your install will take, panel space and how far the charger is from the panel matter more than anything else.
